For the longest time, video games have had appealed to many generations in many ways and immersed us in a different world. And now we have VR headsets (or Virtual Reality Headsets) to take that immersion even further. Games are becoming more and more complex as they increase the ability to customize characters and make you feel more involved. But let’s dial it back to the gamers that can’t feel immersed enough, or at all. Left handed gamers are one of the portions of gamers that don’t get any respect from the gaming development community, and more specifically from First Person Shooters. In the early times of FPS, the gun was in the middle of the screen and was very fair game for both left handed and right handed players. However, when the games hit the more 3D boundaries, we saw only right handed options. Later on, controls could be changed to what is known as Southpaw. This helped the left handed gamers, but the physical feeling versus the visual experience lacked and still lacks connection.

Left handed gamers want to feel just as immersed as a right handed gamer, however when the industry has this brought to their attention, all they have to say for themselves is it is too hard to program in or there isn’t enough demand. However, Exhibit [A]: TF2, a free to play game, allows you to have a left handed player model. The only real micro-transaction in that game is hats. Valve and the developers saw the left handed model not just as something fun, but as something that is an actual need in their gaming community and they delivered. Exhibit [B]: Female characters are not necessary but they program them into a lot of games anyways. It makes the game more diverse. [C]: (most mute point) Call of Duty franchise gives a Colorblind toggle for those who have a hard time determining colors and shades. Knowing that colorblindness is a very serious matter, they are still people who enjoy gaming just like left handed gamers. Both types of people have a handicap when it comes to gaming, and both either put up with the negligence of the developers, or demand retribution.

Today, left handed gamers need to stand out from the right handed gamers and demand from studios and developers we get our left handed player models. Whether it be from first person shooter studios like 343i, Bungie, Respawn, and Sledgehammer, or adventure/action that are third or first person such as Naughty Dog, Rockstar Games, or even Mojang. They need to know that left handed people matter. Thank you for your time, and I hope even right handed people will sign the petition.

Update: ADDITION POST: "I'm a righty, but because I am left eye dominant, I am primarily a left-handed rifleman. Since Reach I have been asking for the ability to select which hand your Spartan held his rifle in. It's something that could be implemented fairly easily and would allow that extra little bit of diversity to set us apart. I still use the default controller scheme, but would love for my rifle to be on the left side. Heck, I even set up my Spartan's shoulder armor for as if he was going to shoot left-handed.

On a related note: Take a look at the H5:G trailer. At the point where you see three Spartans jumping into the arena, the Spartan on the right has a M6 in his left hand. In his right hand he has nothing. I sincerely hope that this is a sneak peak at this feature finally being implemented into the game. There are actually a lot of left-handed shooters for the reason I stated above.

Maybe you would be better suited to be a left-handed shooter IRL, too! Do a quick eye dominance test to see: http://www.wikihow.com/Determine-Your-Dominant-Eye . Your eye dominance is completely independent of your handedness." -Haven923, From the Halo Forum Community
