Leeds University must suspend racist Professor Andrew Hill

Thank you for your comment. In the UK we DO use the term BAME, and many ethnic minority students at Leeds identify as BAME. The term chosen is appropriate because it is what students choose to identify as. Unfortunately professor hill is notorious for giving Bme students a difficult time with regards to progression issues. A disproportionate amount of students from the BME community are made to resit exams / kicked out. This should be investigated..

I'm Black American and we do not answer to BAME. You should stop using that term as well.

Deeply disappointed and let down again by Leeds Medical school

I am disgusted, you are quite right to name and shame him in this way. It would be good to get some noted names on the petition as well. Maybe, support from 'black lives matter'. I am 67 and have been involved in trying to fight prejudice for 40 years. We must keep up the fight. Thank you for taking a stand .

I studied at this uni. Sad.

He always gave off creepy vibes , I thought he was just a pervy old man. My white friends thought he was lovely, I am not surprised to find out he treats ethnic minorities diffrently

He is nothing more than a bully

Leeds university deals with racism using a wall of silence. The typical response is "these allegations are unfounded" Unfounded on what basis? As students we can't record things, so its so easy for a member of staff to say "nope that didnt happen"

Its one thing to have a racist lecturer, its another thing to have a racist in charge of student progress. As a black student, I have sleepless nights. Leeds school of medicine has failed us.

#BLM A racist professor will teach students racism, this will lead to racist doctors. As a POC living in Leeds this matters to me.

He said I would never be as good as white students

I sat through I&P lectures feeling uncomfortable. Professor Hill said very derogatory things about BAME students and their lower academic achievements. No one had the guts to challenge him

I am white, but I have Asian friends, they would rather attempt suicide than ask the medical school for help due to flippant remarks made by Professor Hill. I dont want him to be sacked, but I care about my friends, and as long as he is in power they are not safe. Students come first, and if a member of staff makes students to scared to seek help when suicidal things need to change

I did not get on with my placement group because they drank all the time and I was muslim. I became depressed and I sought help, Dr Hill said if I couldn't fit in with medschool culture I should just leave and go back to Bradford with all the other Asians. He is racist and knows that no one will say anything because he is a professor

In 2008 Amir Mahmood jumped off the roof of the medical school committing suicide. His parents and friends said the university had bullied him. Tutors told Amir-People don't want a doctor like you. Just because your parents are Asian doctors, it doesn't mean you have to be. Just look at other careers." The university denied wrong doing, and nothing else happened. Leeds Medical School has so many racist professors, if just one is suspended it is a step in the right direction.
