China already owned those islands for more than 1,000 years, why suddenly it wants to block the route also kill itself. Only US warship stationed just next to Malacca Strait would want to block the route when in war. China is now finding other routes thru Pakistan etc to the detriment of Singapore. We are doing thing to kill out own port. Stupid.

Why would China block the route when it has 60% of the $5.1 trillion goods passing thru SCS and US has none. 80% of the energy in China is thru Malacca Strait, China is very worried of US blocking the route that can destroy China totally. Your view is severely biased probably brain-washed by western media.

If 60% of the $5.1 trillion of the shipment thru Malacca Strait and thru our port belong to China, why should we help US to threaten our biggest customer customer. When goods are diverted to other port we loose heavily. US has no goods passing our port, we get nothing from America.

Dear Sir/Madam, I am a Singapore citizen. I am deeply concerned and saddened about the recent tensions in relations between Singapore and China. Relations between Singapore and China should never be anything less than the best relationship between brothers. Outside China, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau, Singapore is the only country in the world with a Chinese majority. Besides the factors of race and ancestry, our proficiency in Mandarin and our knowledge of China and its history and culture and many other things, places us in a natural great advantage when it comes to China. Furthermore, Singapore is located in East Asia which is the same part of the world that China is located in, and both Singapore and China is in close proximity to each other. Besides race and language and culture and history and many other factors, Singapore and China is also close to each other in terms of geography. So when it comes to China, Singapore actually has the most natural advantages compared to any other country, besides Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. We need to know how to use our advantages. As we all know, China is a rising power and this is a fact that the world must accept. Our neighbours, Malaysia, Thailand, Philippines and etc., have learnt to take advantage of China's rise, to their own advantage. By being on such close relations with China, they have indeed benefited much from China. And it is such a shame for us because other than geography, none of these countries have any of the advantages that we have when it comes to China. We should be on much better and much closer relations with China, than Malaysia or Thailand or Philippines, are with China. And China should be helping us much more than they help Malaysia or Thailand or Philippines or any other country. But because of certain wrong moves and certain wrong policies by our government, certain misunderstandings have occurred between Singapore and China, and China is now our potenti

1. Singapore is not a neutral country. It is non-aligned. 2. If China would to take those islands, it would block the shipping routes. 3. China is practicing hegemony for a very long time, and because of its economic boom, could afford to expand their military capacity. So, what is so good about letting China be an economic giant?

http://theindependent.sg/china-is-trying-to-get-singaporeans-to-pressure-its-government-alleges-ambassador-bilahari/ China is trying to get Singaporeans to pressure its government alleges Ambassador Bilahari By The Independent - November 28, 2016 Singapore’s ambassador-at-large, Bilahari Kausikan, commented on the seizure of nine armoured vehicles by the Hong Kong customs department and the Chinese government’s protest lodged with its Singapore counterpart today (28 Nov), and suggested that China openly expressing displeasure is meant to intimidate Singaporeans. The former senior civil servant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that China has realised that with or without Lee Kuan Yew, the government cannot be intimidated, and so they are trying to intimidate Singaporeans in order to get Singaporeans to pressure the government. Replying in his Facebook to several commenters who responded to his posting of the Reuter’s article on the topic, Mr Kausikan disagreed that China is unhappy with Singapore for speaking up on the the South China Sea issue, and would have left Singapore alone if we had kept quiet. “If we had stayed quiet on an issue of such importance they would have asked for more: that we speak out in support of their position and play the role Cambodia plays for them in ASEAN (even Laos is not as bad). They know we are far more credible than Cambodia internationally and thus want us to be their mouthpiece. Of course, we do on occasion support them when it is in our interests, for example on Hong Kong and the Western Regions project at Chongqing that we undertook at Xi Jinping’s request. But we cannot be just their mouthpiece which is fundamentally what they want and what they mean when they refer to us, despite our constant denials, as a ‘Chinese country’. If we do that our credibility with the US, Japan, India, Australia among others would be entirely destroyed and we have important interests with these countries too.” He sug

Indeed, we are educated enough and well connected these days to know who is the real big sickening fool who has a foot in the mouth, be it towards China or the US. Whilst not being an admirer of both countries, we have to realise they also need to protect their international standing especially unsolicited remarks from a spoilt brat who has done very little to improve the people's lives but continue to rest in the laurels given by daddy and a country built from the hard work of real Singaporeans.
