March 17 talking points to the School Board:
We have joined forces with many local families to urge the Ross Valley School District to immediately explore renting the Saint Rita School facility TO CREATE TWO GREAT PUBLIC SCHOOLS IN FAIRFAX and PROVIDE MORE PUBLIC SCHOOL OPTIONS FOR ALL STUDENTS in the district.
Almost 200 people have signed the petition so far, and more are joining this cause every day.
Some of these families are here tonight to show their support.
PLEASE STAND IF YOU HAVE SIGNED THE PETITION.
Why is this change necessary?
Today, we have one public elementary school in Fairfax. It houses two different programs – the K-5 and the Multi-Age Program (MAP) – that are both constrained because they are crowded into one campus together.
The K-5 program -- doesn’t have space to grow and thrive on the Manor campus.
It is supposed to be the neighborhood school for Fairfax, but it doesn’t have enough space to actually serve all the students in Fairfax. Fairfax students who live east of Dominga Ave are getting pushed into Brookside and Hidden Valley schools in San Anselmo.
The MAP program – also doesn’t have space to expand and thrive on the Manor Campus.
There are currently 100 students on the wait list from all over the district.
These families often wait for years to get access to the program.
THE STATUS QUO at Manor – a divided and conflict-ridden campus – IS BAD FOR OUR KIDS.
It is bad for our community.
This has been a problem for many years. We need a solution.
The possible closure of St. Rita School creates a huge opportunity to solve the problems at Manor School AND improve public school options for all students in the Ross Valley.
This is also an opportunity to grow enrollment and revenue for the district. There are 110 students at the St Rita School who will need to find new schools. Many of these families are price-sensitive and will consider enrolling in district schools. But right now the district schools don’t have enough

We are building a broad-based coalition of Ross Valley families to ask the school district to invest in Fairfax schools in order to end a conflict on the Manor campus. Let's keep the momentum!

This could prevent the costs of building new classrooms at existing schools. And there are many, many people, including myself, who highly value having the wonderful MAP program as the best educational choice for our kids.

If St Rita's unfortunately closes, this could be the best solution to satisfy those families that want MAP to expand. Though we'd hate to see MAP leave Manor, we also don't want the program to be shut down by the school board. Please consider this.
