Dear Mr. Pat Gaudet,
We are writing to inform you about our Collective grievance regarding the gradual erosion of work-morale among the Lease Operators and their drivers, being caused by the introduction of many policies that are taking us to the brink of bankruptcies. At the moment we are experiencing severe financial hardship in our duties as Lease Operators, hauling Molten Sulphur on behalf of Gibson Energy. We are requesting the matter be investigated and worked out as soon as possible to mitigate a great fallout.
In brief, our grievances are as follows:
- Restoration of Hauling Rates to 2014 Levels. Knowing very well of a higher cost than usual to operating a truck at this moment.
- A fuel purchase Cap to be set at less than 0.75 CAD, couple with an open and fair Fuel Surcharge.
- Gibson Truck Insurance Rates should be dropped to 500.00 CAD per month to meet standards of similar companies Hauling Sulphur in and around Alberta.
- Elimination of Fees and Interest Charges for Trucks that are plated, and insured only to work for Gibson Energy.
- The Pin to Pin experiment should be ceased with immediate effect. It’s very detrimental to truck Airbags, Suspension springs, coupling devices, and tank perforation can occur to a loaded Hazardous Super-B trailer to be continually dropped and hooked from Fort McMurray. Axle weight distribution has become a concern for drivers as it is difficult to slide a 63.5 Tons tanker trailer on a Fifth-wheel. Individual Carrier profiles may be revoked at a Vehicle Inspection Stations should a truck and trailer axles record overweight. Drivers have no available Scale at the Gibson yard in Fort McMurray.
- Lease operators and their drivers being on the front line could be invited to join Gibson’s Group Medical plan to enhance the health of their families and themselves.
- Finally, and not the least, a show of decent communication to drivers at our Safety meetings is paramount. Vilifying drivers who raise an opinion is tantamount to oppression and bully. No one deserves an insult and intimidation at any forum. Our indirect investment is to see Gibson Energy maintain its Global Leadership, and a place to work.
Thanking you in advance.
Yours Sincerely,
Sulphur Lease Operators at Gibson Energy ULC
