The Leadman Tri is coming to Bend Oregon in September. It appeared to be a done deal. For 3 years a new, but epic, event would be raced here in Central Oregon. Leadman isn't new to putting on events. Their Leadman 100 mile trail run and 100 mile mountain race are staples in the endurance community. As well, they are backed now by LifeTime Fitness which has put on great races and a triathlon series of their own over the years.

The hiccup... It appears from a recent article in the local newspaper that this may not be a done deal as a competing event, Ironman, may jeopardize a deal that has already been in the works, and presumably done. They want to host the event on the same day. I'm all for Ironman coming to Bend, but it shouldn't come at the expense of kicking others out. My understanding is it has nothing to do with Ironman, the corporation, but the local backing of committees and officials. 

In my opinion this is like asking a girl to the prom and a month later dumping her for the prettier girl. Date the second girl another time and stand by your commitments. Ironman would be Awesome, if done right. Leadman Tri will be awesome and if done well with local support could lead to more Epic races coming to Bend (100 mile trail run, Leadman Mtn Bike Qualifier?)
