The factory farm developers finally backed down and scrapped their plan for these broiler houses. We stopped them from poisoning our water and now we need to stay vigilant to ensure they do not try to crawl back into our community under a different name.

Please accept my electronic signature below as my formal written opposition to the proposed land use set forth in the Public Notice appearing in the August 16, 2007, edition of The Groesbeck (TX) Journal, which addresses an application for a Farm Service Agency loan to purchase land to build a poultry facility comprised of ten (10) 46 foot by 500 foot broiler houses. Water from the land in question drains directly into the Navasota River, which in turn runs into Lake Limestone, which then feeds into the Brazos River. The proposed operation could have a very real and serious environmental impact to a large population of Texans, given the adverse effects of the by-products of chicken manure, including nitrous oxide and methane, and could also contribute to the spread of diseases such as the Avian Flu. I strongly oppose the proposed operation and the use of my tax dollars to fund such an operation, an operation which can only serve to destroy the quality of life for this area and all residents downstream. Thank you for taking this step to preserve our environment.

The corporate suits behind these factory farms think we will just roll over and let them poison our water supply. They are dead wrong because your stories about the risks to our river and our families prove they have no place in our community.

The people holding the purse strings at the Farm Service Agency are finally being forced to pay attention to our outrage. We have built enough momentum to make them sweat and they know we are not going anywhere until this reckless factory farm plan is scrapped for good.

DISGUSTING. 10 chicken houses is way too big for that land. Residents deserve better than this.

We already have enough trouble with the water quality in this area. Just say no to the factory farm.
