We believe the student leader election process was not open and fair. We would like the unsuccessful candidates to be allowed to scrutinise the votes cast and the voting results published. We would also like to see future elections carried out openly and transparently and in accordance with a pre published process. If a Principal's veto is to be utilised then this must be included in the published election process. The upcoming General Election indicates that New Zealand is a democracy and Long Bay College is situated within that democracy so should be bound by the same election principles. Part of education should be readying students for full participation in the adult world, rigging a student election is not the best way to do this.
