IT IS SAD DAY FOR LAXKWALAAMS PEOPLE THAT IT HAS COME TO THIS IN REMOVING AN ELECTED CHIEF IN THIS FASHION. ONE OF THE BIGGEST MISTAKES WE AS FIRST NATIONS PEOPLE DID WAS TO ALLOW OUR CHIEF TO CALL HIMSELF MAYOR.. ANY PERSON WHO RUNS FOR THE TOP JOB IN THIS BAND COUNSEL SHOULD BE CALLED CHIEF. OUR ANCESTORS DID THIS OVER THE YEARS AND WE SHOULD NOT CHANGE THIS TO MAKE THE GOVERNMENT HAPPY. IF SO THIS MEANS WE TRULY ARE BEING ASSIMILATE . THERE ARE MANY MANY REASONS WHY THIS ELECTED CHIEF IS BEING SHOWN THE DOOR . ENOUGH IS ENOUGH WE NEED PEOPLE IN OFFICE WHO IS THERE FOR THE PEOPLE. WE ALSO DO NOT NEED A CAUCASIAN PERSON FROM DIA IN OUR AFFAIRS. WE ALSO NEED TO BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR EVERY PENNY SPENT OUT OF THIS OFFICE..ACCOUNTABILITY IS NEEDED AND HONESTY. WE NEED TO LEARN FROM ALL THESE MISTAKES THAT HAVE BEING MADE. AND GROW FROM THERE. THIS IS WHAT THE GOVERNMENT WANTS TO SEE. THE FAILURE IN A CHIEF AND BAND COUNSEL. SO LETS PROVE THE GOVERNMENT WRONG. AND ELECT A NEW CHIEF AND BAND COUNSEL THAT WILL WORK FOR THE GOOD OF THE PEOPLE AND THE PROTECTION OF OUR LANDS AND WATER.

When I decided to go ahead with this petition it was not an easy decision. What came to mind was Tom gosnell, and Reginald Sampson. These two men looked after our community for years with the interest of the community at heart. Tom gosnell went to Ottawa and spoke in parliament for natives that were starving. He was an instrumental figure in getting provision(now called welfare and E.I) for our people that were starving throughout the winter. Reginald sampson built the infrastructure we see today in laxkwalaams. As a child I saw my papa standing on to top of the docks talking to all the fisherman about current events. He was engaged in dialogue with the community. These two men had integrity. The way we are represented at the table today is very shameful. This is not ment to be a hate filled petition, it is ment to be a petition of change. We need a leader now more than ever! If you feel the fear of repercussion from signing this petition, that should be enough of a reason to sign your name. It's time we put integrity back at the table. Let this petition speak for itself!!
