The petition calls to the attention of the NYS Legislature that the Americans with Disabilities Act, while helpful, does not go far enough in ensuring access to all buildings by all persons.

The Petitioners Request that the State’s building codes and requirements for existing and new buildings be amended to include the mandatory installation of automatic doors in medical buildings such as physician chiropractic and optometrist offices.

This Petition has been circulated as part of a Gold Award Girl Scout Project that hopes to both raise awareness and create a more handicap-friendly environment in NYS.
