A stray female cat wandered to my house at the beginning of this summer and, a few weeks later, we discovered she was pregnant. Being the soft-hearted, animal lovers that we are, we welcomed the cat as one of our own and allowed her to give birth in our cool, safe basement on the sweltering evening of July 22nd. Kitty, as we affectionately named her, gave birth to three precious kittens - a boy and two girls - that have been living in our basement until they are old enough to find new homes. Unfortunately, with shelter overcrowding and pet overpopulation, the chances of these kittens finding responsible homes before they would have to be put to sleep are slim to none. As a loving and responsible pet owner of multiple cats, I cannot stand to see all three of these kittens not find a loving home. That's why I've started this petition: I have fallen in love with the male kitten and would love to give him a forever home with me. Unfortunately, the current apartment I'm living in does not allow cats and charges a $25/day fee for those who violate the terms of the lease. While I understand and respect the landlord's concern, I am here to convince them that I would remain the responsible tenant that I have been for the past two years and keep the apartment and my monthly rent in good standing as I have always done. This is my final year of college and I plan on being in the apartment for only two more semesters before I have to move out; I would like to take this kitten with me to keep me company as I start my life as graduate student elsewhere. The only way I can do this is to give the kitten a loving home in the apartment I currently reside in, since I am unable to keep him at my parent's house. Help me gather signatures of people who believe me to be a responsible pet owner/tenant and as someone who is capable of giving this deserving animal a forever home!
