When I was a student at BHS I never saw sunlight because I was at school before sunrise and left after sunset (I was in daily activities until 6 - but hey, it got me into top schools). My doctor told me my depression was from lack of sleep and vitamin D. This is so important for student health.

Please start school later. We have a son waking up at 4:40 am to swim and his sleep is minimal at at 14. I am truly concerned about his well being. Please consider changing it for next year. Thank you!

I support the later start time for our children. They need their rest for better health and welfare.

I encourage our school board to adopt a later starting time for the many benefits it will bring to students. We will all have to adjust our grip on how we do things but I think it's the right move at the right time.

I also want to recommend the early start time for the elementary schools.

Please consider this measure for the health and safety of our high school students.

Still deeply disappointed that you were unwilling to enact any improvement in the start time for the 2016/17 school year. As this is a health and safety issue for the kids, be careful that your unwillingness to act isn't perceived as negligence.

Late start makes the most sense - our high schoolers need the extra sleep!

This is a HEALTH issue impacting our children... There are plenty of solutions that can solve this. Obviously some may be less popular or more expensive than others, but start times need to change ASAP. Tweaking the fixes can be delayed, not the change in the start time.

I support this initiative, and hope the BOE will too.

The science and data are overwhelmingly clear that a late start time is the responsible action to take.

A no brainer.

Sleep comes first. Please find a way to make this happen!! It is medically proven fact teens need sleep. We should be leading this cause-Lake Forest and Stevenson have changed for 2016.

This is needed and I hope this petition is considered!

There are challenges to making this change but that should not stop us from doing what is best for our children. The research is clear.

I feel that their education should not be shorted but the athletic programs need to shorten a bit to accommodate the later start times.

I will also remain open to start/end times later than proposed on this petition, if good reasoning.

I went to BHS in the 80's and now have a daughter in Middle School. I used to come home and sleep through dinner just to be awake enough to do homework. The early start time is debilitating. Let's do what is right and recognize what science is telling us.

As a physician who actively practices evidenced based medicine, I think it is essential we look at the data that points to the many benefits of having a later start time for our adolescents. Unfortunately, there were many external factors that played into the fact that the later start proposals did not pass for 2016. I hope that our community can come together to find a solution that will benefit the wellbeing of our children by allowing them to follow their natural sleep pattern.
