Petition to Loop Class into 5th Grade with Mr. Guy

Respectfully submitted to:

Ms. Martha Monahan

Principal

Center Street School

700 Center Street

El Segundo, CA 90245

Dear Ms. Monahan:

The parents of Mr. Guy’s 4th Grade class are petitioning to loop our students into 5th Grade under his instruction.

Mr. Guy has proven to inspire a love of learning in our children. He motivates the students, instills confidence in their abilities, is attentive to the individual needs of each child and continually employs new ways of learning. For example, Mr. Guy sometimes plays classical music during class. Studies have continually demonstrated the benefits of music in the classroom which include increased attention, focus, and concentration. It establishes a positive learning state, and facilitates a multisensory learning experience among many other benefits. Mr. Guy is a strong role model for all students.

As you know, looping is growing in popularity in the United States, but is still considered innovative. One of the many reasons why Center Street is continually lauded for its quality of education is because our parents work tirelessly to take an active role in our children’s education, to raise the bar, to be innovative.

One of the many benefits of looping is eliminating the time spent for teachers and students to get acquainted. The class is able to dive right into learning. This extra time will benefit our children greatly as they prepare for middle school.

Ms. Monahan, we appreciate you considering this request as we know that classroom placement is something you take very seriously and work hard at finding that right balance in every class in each grade. You have done an exceptional job as you can tell, since we love the mix of our class and the way in which Mr. Guy has stretched our children, otherwise we wouldn't ask you to consider this. We would love our children to stay together so Mr. Guy can continue to support their growth and continue to inspire their love of learning as they move into their final year in Elementary school.

Thank you for your consideration -

The Parents of Classroom #7
