Contrary to misleading editorial in the local newspaper, a planning application for a new school in Laneshawbridge has not yet been submitted by Lancashire County Council and the success of any such planning application is by no means a foregone conclusion.

There is much that can be done to object to the proposals, both before and after the planning application is submitted.

Statistics obtained under a Freedom for Information request exposes Lancashire County Council's ( LCC)  contention that a major new school in Laneshawbridge is needed to satisfy local need as a sham.

Despite repeated requests to LCC to confirm numbers of pupils attending the school from outside the area LCC refused citing it was not Council policy to release such information.

However figures now revealed show that 75% of pupils are from outside the area.

It is no wonder LCC wanted to keep these numbers from the public, they blow a hole in their  entire argument and it is yet more evidence of how the process has been manipulated. LCC as both the party that will submit the planning application and the planning authority who will be determining the planning application, when it is made, need to be very careful that the process is absolutely independent and seen to be 100% legitimate.

At a time when LCC have been tasked with saving £160m, spending £4.25m plus on a new school doesn't look either good economics or indeed politics especially when other schools in the area are in need of repair and upgrade.
