To: Director-General of UNESCO Subject: A destructive project in Persian Gulf Her excellency Ms. Irina G. Bokova, Hereby we inform your excellency and your organization that there is a 35-hectare land reclamation project running for demolition of Dargahan Coast (in Qeshm Island, Iran) without notice to environmental impact. The muddy coast of Bandar-e Dargahan is the feeding area of migratory birds and mangrove planting and propagation of shrimp and other fish hatchery. The people and the city council are opposed to this project. During 4 months ago, they have written some scrolls and a protest has been made by them. Also Iranian media have benn published many stories about his project by experts and academics. Regarding this project we strongly can prove that: 1. There is no environmental assessment and related studies about environmental impact and no EPA permission for this project. 2. According to the Law of Coast Land Conservation which has been passed in the Iranian parliament in 1974 (equivalent to 1354.4.29 jalali calendar), This project is illegal clearly. Please do what you can for stopping this destructive project by contacting with your colleagues in Iran ASAP. Best Regards The Iranian people
