The school was simply Lee High School through 1963-64. It was changed the next year. Go back to to the original name or keep it as it is. Revisionist history is ridiculous.

The money needed to go forward with this debacle would be better spent elsewhere! My husband and I both graduated from Lee as did my sister and my brother. CRAZINESS! I never thought about HISTORY, and what emotions some are supposedly saying that the name conjures up, when I entered that school! I’ve lived in Fairfax county for 60 years and it’s a travesty that my Alma-mater’s name is under siege! All because of ONE kid?!? Why isn’t something being done about all the kids that are getting free lunch because no proof of income is required? Most have cell phones and drive nicer cars than I have. So many things are wrong with the SYSTEM and the folks in charge, that are FAR MORE IMPORTANT then spending a ridiculous amount of money to appease a FEW...very upsetting!

I am a 1976 Lancer Graduate. The state of VA is going way too far; this has been the name since 1958; it’s time to stop our VA history from being wiped away. Robert E Lee HS Lancers must unite and keep our HS name!

It cannot be denied that Lee was a great commander, though he fought for the losing side. When you read his writings you see how much it tore him apart to have to fight against what he loved. Changing the school name would be a tremendous and unnecessary waste of funds. Use the name as a teaching opportunity if it bothers.

Don’t waste taxpayer dollars on this. Robert E Lee was a great man that did many great things and he should not be defined by just one thing this one thing that at the time was socially acceptable even though morally wrong.

This is a big waste of tax payer's money. Spend it on the education of our youth not on meaningless name changes.

There are so many better uses for funds. If the name of everything named after someone who was once a slave owner were changed, we’d be changing things not only in the USA but across the pond to Europe and even Africa! I think we all know slavery was wrong. Let’s fight sex trade slavery and child slavery instead!

I’m a 1979 graduate of Robert E Lee and a name change is ridiculous. It had no effect on me or my classmates

I lived here most of my life. I went to and graduated from Robert E Lee High School. Please reconsider changing this historic schools name.

Spend the money on bathroom necessities or more janitors to clean the nasty school

This is so unnecessary. You cannot wipe out history. It seems to be some kind of band wagon going on. I’d rather see the money you would spend go towards the teachers.
