The Union-North United School Corporation is in the works with an idea to change the school start time from 8:10 to 9:00am & let out time from 2:55 to 3:45. We have had this schedule for the last 30 years, why change it? The school board seems to think that becase of low ISTEP test scores, the teachers should have meetings in the morning to discuss how to fix this problem. I do not believe that changing the school hours will do anything but cause more chaos! Also, the teachers should not have to suffer because of this! They already put in long hours & work through the summer. If we allow this change, parents will be forced to change work hours or hire caretakers, teachers will be forced to change their schedules & pressured to perform in other areas instead of with our children. Students will have a longer school day which will cut into homework time, extra curricular activities & time with their families. This schedule change will also force caretakers into over crowding. Many parents work because they must, we do not really get to make our own hours nor make up lost hours due to this arrangement. Therefore, we will need to put our children in daycare just to get to school. I believe this to be an unneccessary expense that many families can not afford!There has to be another option!
