Rezoning application PUD-07-007 is on the agenda for the September 20th Volusia County Council Zoning meeting.
The property is located at the corner of Plymouth and Grand Avenue in DeLand near the Glenwood neighborhood. The application is requesting a rezoning from the A-1 and A-2 zoning classification to the Glenwood Park RPUD zoning classification.
The proposal is designed to allow a high density development adjacent to the Lake Woodruff Wildlife Refuge.
Help protect the Lake Woodruff Wildlife Refuge and the rural character of the area. Act before it is too late.
1. Sign this petition to stop this rezoning and Orlando type neighborhoods from coming to our neighborhoods.
2. Send this petition to your friends who also desire to preserve the rural character of DeLand.
3. Click on the County Council E-mail link to the right of this petition to send them an e-mail about this zoning case. Be sure to reference PUD-07-007 Glenwood Park RPUD in your e-mail.
Please, do it today. There is little time remaining.
We the undersigned are seeking Volusia County Council Support to preserve the Lake Woodruff Wildlife Refuge and our rural neighborhood quality of life with appropriate development and deny the proposal and rezoning request set forth in:
PUD-07-007 Glenwood Park RPUD.
We the undersigned live, work, and play in DeLand. We believe that the combined impact of the existing planned and proposed development for the intersection of
Plymouth and Grand Avenue is too dense and is inappropriate for our rural community.
Therefore, we object to this zoning application. The proposals will bring unacceptable levels of traffic congestion and create intersections that are deadly and unfriendly to pedestrians and bicyclists that frequent the rural atmosphere of our area. The planed density will negatively impact the wildlife refuge along with the quality of life in our rural community, a community that is recognized as a great place to live, raise a family, and enjoy the wildlife. We believe that the proposed levels of development violate the intent of existing land use plans. Approving this rezoning application would undermine current zoning protections, allowing large-scale development inconsistent with the character of the surrounding neighborhoods.
We, the undersigned, respectfully request that the Volusia County Council vote to deny this zoning application PUD-07-007.
I have been staring at the maps for hours trying to figure out how anyone thinks high density belongs right next to the refuge but reading all your comments helps me keep my sanity. I am drafting a packet of our concerns right now because the council needs to see that we are not just going to let them change the character of our home without putting up a real fight.

I was checking the page and just had to pause because seeing this kind of movement around our neighborhood is actually surreal. It really hit me that people are finally noticing how much is at stake at that corner of Plymouth and Grand because for so long it felt like we were just shouting into the wind.

Keep Deland rural please. We have enough traffic already and don't need another massive subdivision ruining the lake area.

NO WAY. We moved here for the peace and quiet not to be next to some huge high density complex. DENY THIS.

Total disaster for the environment if this goes through. Why do they keep wanting to cram houses into places that arent ready for them?

Too much concrete everywhere lately. Leave the refuge alone and stop trying to make everything look like a city suburb.
