Can the issues delaying the project addressed with a sense of urgency and concern for beneficiaries of the project. Water is life. There is no moral reason to delay supplying water to 1, 000, 000 people who have long been waiting an ever flowing supply of water.

Am a resident of Lilongwe city. We are really facing it. Looking @ the pace the city is growing, the water volume in lilongwe river, pollution levels of the water due to poor city planning ie the crucial part of the river when it comes to water supply is flanked by locations whose inhabitants misuse the river being used for dumping & all dirty works coupled with low water volumes reducing the dilution rate even further. Every devepment has its own disadvantages please don't use knowledge to suppress development which will benefit multitudes. If these people have an alternative let them bring it forward. If this was the way to go by we wouldn't have Kamuzu dam 1&2. Yes the project may have some negative impacts but do we have alternatives to this water problem for lilongwe? Diamphwi and lilongwe river are more less the same the only difference could be that diamphwi waters may be less polluted as compared to Lilongwe. If Diamphwi is the alternative then it is as good & wise to have a dam as big as Kamuzu dams @ area 3 LLWB pumping point where currently there is none.please our educated friends with big mouths & loud voices may you try to be patriotic in a positive way for the benefit of everyone. Don't be guided by fear of the unknown know your country better don't just know it through papers. Already whether you like it or not each & every day we are loosing huge volumes of water to the Zambezi & Indian ocean after being used by Egenco who are the last huge users of these waters before loosing the waters to Zambezi river. Unfortunaly Egenco does not recircle the waters @ all its three stations namely Nkula, Tedzani & kapichira soon after the water drives the turbines they are left to flow down the course to the ocean without even retaining a little. If this was the mentality then the first Ngwazi (kamuzu Banda) would not have transformed Malawi from what it was let alone establishing the capital city which had several villages & chieftencies. EIA is important but it should not be a reason why such an important project is halted. Long term community benefits should be of paramount consideration than the form.
