What's this about? SSE (Scottish and Southern Electricity) is proposing to build a new high voltage power line from the small, peaceful village of Lairg in the picturesque Northern Highlands of Scotland, and a new substation on the residential outskirts of Lairg, The substation could cover a site of 18 acres (size of 10 football pitches). The smallest pylon could be 30m tall, the largest 70m.

How does it affect me? SSE's most favoured site for the substation is close to homes and businesses. The most favoured pylon routes cut through crofts and bypass homes. The visual amenity of our well visited village will be blighted. Tourism is a very important part of the local economy.

I'm worried. What can I do about this? Sign our petition and pass on links to it to any interested parties you know. You can also contact SSE gavin.steel@sse.com to make your views known. For more information contact CALL (Community Action Lairg to Loch Buidhe) at emmaarmstrong@headweb.co.uk or join us on Facebook.

This is a major development affecting our homes, businesses and the visual amenity of our village and we strongly believe that we have the right to have our views acted on by SSE.
