Before getting into detail we would like to make it clear that we are not racist or xenophobic. We support the defence of different minorities and are against the inequalities that they can be victims of. But in these inequalities there should exits rights and liabilities for everyone, and for that reason we cannot be in favour of ethnic gypsies or any other ethnic or social group that is not liable to respect the laws of this country like any other citizen.

Most recently a horse was beaten in clear public view horrifying tourists who swore never to come back to Lagos.

We ask for your support and collaboration to resolve a problem which every year endangers our lives and others in the Lagos area.

This is to do with an ethnic gypsy camp located at Sitio do Falfeira, Lagos, next to the new public police station, located on a partially neglected land.

Besides the question of insecurity (theft, threats, insults, fires) which are caused by the gypsy camp during its presence we also suffer from damage to private (destroyed vegetation, trees and horses grazing on public gardens), the danger of fires (everyday fires are lit often burning plastic), animals are badly treated, noise pollution (Shouting, speeding cars, loud music which continues during the night not allowing us to have a peaceful night). Also the danger to public health, this year there are nine tents nineteen horses and one goat, without any hygienic conditions. The garbage which is not only bad for the environment but also the health of local residents, with human and animal waste giving nauseating aromas of an open air sewer.

Finally we would like to add that the location it is not the best postcard for who comes to visit our town.

So we believe the above points are not only a problem for residents in the close vicinity but for the whole town and would like the local council and police of Lagos to remove the camp and take measures to prevent it from returning.
