In January 2006, Ms. Lafferty accepted the position of Chair of the Finance and Legal Committee for the Dormont Borough. As Chair, Ms. Lafferty held monthly public meetings to review the status of the budget and the monthly expenses and invoices incurred by the Borough. Ms. Lafferty prepared a Spreadsheet that tracked the expenditures of the budget each month, and highlighted those expenses that were over-budget. Prior to January 2006, no spreadsheets were prepared, no monthly tracking of the budget was done, and no monthly public meetings were held. In an attempt to silence Ms. Lafferty, Councilwoman Mary Beth Kovic moved to have Ms. Lafferty removed as Chair in the beginning of May 2006. Council Members Tim McCoy and Linda Kitchen also voted for Ms. Lafferty\'s removal without citing any reason. Mayor Tom Lloyd broke the 3-3 tie vote, amd Ms. Lafferty was removed from the Finance and Legal Committee. Since Ms. Lafferty\'s removal, no Finance and Legal meeting has been held. In fact, at the May 26th Agenda meeting, no one other than Ms. Lafferty knew the status of the budget. Ms. Lafferty had planned to hold a six month budget review at a public meeting in July, and to hold weekly meetings with the Borough Manager to address budget issues. Since her removal, no councilmember has been appointed to Chair, and no meetings have been held to address budget issues. The three members of council who voted for Ms. Lafferty\'s removal, Ms. Kovic, Ms. Kitchen, and Mr. McCoy, have failed to step up and accept the position of Chair or address any of the current budget issues. The budget issues are now no longer being addressed by any member of council. Ms. Lafferty remains committed to reviewing the budget monthly, to reducing expenses, and to monitoring expenses and revenue. Ms. Lafferty, a business woman and attorney, is highly skilled at performing the duties of Finance and Legal Chair. Ms. Lafferty is dedicated to putting the needs of the community first, and to being responsible with the taxpayer\'s money. By signing this Petition, you are asking the President of Dormont Council to immediately reinstate Ms. Lafferty to the position of Chair of the Finance and Legal Committee.
