Re: Lack of feedback and proper Guidance from The Lecture

We, the student of B-Tech Industrial Projects IV has the following concerns:

  • The lecture gives general feedback on the my UNISA portal rather than individual feedback.
    • On the 27th of May 2020, the lecture made an announcement that all projects based on refurbishment, upgrade and commissioning are not going to be accepted. This Announcement was made 2 days after the second assignment was submitted already. This is not fair as students have already submitted two assignments based on those topics, this was supposed to be communicated prior so that students do not choose such projects.
  • There are no guidelines for investigative studies.

With the above mentioned, we therefore request that the lecture address students, case by case on their projects and give feedback. With the projects that are deemed not acceptable, we request that feedback must be given on what the students should improve on to get them to the right level rather than rejecting it since It is very late to start afresh. Unisa being an online distance learning, we rely on the guidelines and constant feedback of the Assignments from the lecture.

We humbly request that you look into the issue, We hope that this will get your favourable consideration.

Below are some the names and signatures of the students that were affected by this.

Kind Regards

Updates

June 4, 2020

The volume of support for this petition has gained sufficient weight to escalate our formal request to the department head. I am currently finalizing the delivery of these signatures along with a written summary of student concerns to ensure a meeting is scheduled. We are moving beyond gathering support to enforcing a direct response from the faculty.

I failed the module last year because my proposal was marked in August and other assignments were marked after submitting the final report. There was never time no do corrections

It is very unfair for the university to reject the upgrade, commissioning and refurbishment projects after 2 assignments were submitted. Worse of all this was not shared on the tutorial letter, that is the best communication for preparations of learners and lectures. We would like the commission to be regarded ad as Projects. It is highly impossible and unfair to start a new project now in June considering that the final will be due in few months.

Feedbacks are given late and the templates which we must use, have repeatative requirements which is confusing. A generic feedback was given for the proposal which didn't help because we were still in the dark about our individual projects. Moving forward we will need individual feedbacks because they will be more specific to the individual needs or requirements

Feedback is late, time is also not on our side.
