Lab Glove Recycling Program URI
As a global leader in contamination control solutions for cleanrooms and laboratories committed to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Kimberly-Clark Professional began its single-use garment recycling program named “RightCycle” in 2011
So far they have diverted 70,000 pounds of waste from landfills
Not only are the gloves environmentally friendly due to their ability to be recycled, but they are manufactured in a process in which absolutely zero waste goes to a landfill and are distributed in packages with 20% less waste than the current glove brand.
How it works:
Step 1: Gloves are worn in non-hazardous applications
Step 2: Products are collected and shipped to recycling centers
Step 3: Products are processed into plastic pellets or nitrile powder
Step 4: Materials are made into plastic products and durable goods
How we can utilize this program:
-In CBLS, most labs do not utilize hazardous chemicals. Especially within the science curriculum required labs.
-In Introductory Chemistry labs, most of the chemicals used do not qualify as hazardous or could involve recycling only during non-hazardous labs.
-In individual faculty research labs where non-hazardous chemicals are used
