Prop 1 bond issue passed but the Administrators and the Board have not. What you may not know is that by Law Kirkwood SD is required to go through a qualifications based selection process for construction projects. For years now, the District has been using the same architect, Dickinson and Hussman, and a handful of engineers to do all the work for the District. Why this matters? First, the Kirkwood community pays for the fees of the work done by living in the District. We vote for the school board members who have ignored the State Law as well as have been paying whatever they want to pay to hire architects and engineers who they like. The District hired a very small architecture firm to do all of the work for the District. This architects can charge whatever fees he wants since he has no competition. The Architect has admitted it will be very difficult to do all the work at one time. He also said it was him that provided a small list of engineers to the District. He said the list is only of engineers he likes and trusts. He also said he got to choose who the engineers were along with District Administrators and Board. This means the QBS process was not followed and Kirkwood SD violated the State Law. By law public organizations MUST place an ad for the selection of engineers and architects and go through a specific process. They did not. This costs the District more money and will cause more problems with the construction. Just because someone used to serve on the Board shouldn't mean that his firm gets all the engineering work they want. If you understand and agree that the District and the Board wrongfully selected the designers for the upcoming work, please sign this petition to force the school disrict to conduct the QBS process by law. This petition also asked that if a school board member is related to any submitting engineer or architect they should be removed from the selection process.
