Kirkland City Council Should Not Ask Washington Legislators to Interfere with Contract Made with It's Citizens

HCC has done an excellent job of ensuring g this neighborhood does not get overbuilt before the Kirkland City Council ensures there is adequate road widening.

This is an in appropriate run around by the Kirkland City Council.

Our votes should matter. Residents of Houghton spoke again at this last election - we value the HCC and its contribution to the quality of life in our neighborhood.

I am opposed to the KCC disregarding the legal vote by the citizens of Houghton to "Sunset" the HCC. I do not believe the KCC has the best interest and quality of life, for the Houghton residents in mind. Decisions in the last few years have not made Kirkland better. We have lost our uniqueness, charm and feeling of safety. Urban is a perfect example of Kirkland trying to be a "big" city. Urban is not "friendly," inviting or compelling. Going to QFC is drudgery. Perhaps the KCC should take advantage of another set of eyes to be sure that future plans are reviewed by the HCC, so important decisions like our comprehensive plan do not overlook important zoning issues in the future, like Urban. Leave the HCC alone. If 76% of the Houghton voters approved 4 more years for the HCC per ordinance #2001, what gives the KCC the legal right to strong arm this decision and have Olympia make a local decision to overrule the voters?

I would like to express my disappointment with the intention to sunset the Houghton Community Council. I am very concerned about the recent attempts by the Kirkland City Council to eliminate our community's voice. It's unfortunate to see bureaucracy, politics, and greed take precedence over the wishes of the residents of this area.

The Houghton community council does great work for the Houghton community, and their advocacy serve all of Kirkland well. The council members have worked hard and reasonably. Instead of abolishing the HCC, every community should have a council.

The City of Kirkland has historically favored commercial development over the interests of residents. I support of the Houghton Community Council and their efforts to balance progress and quality of life for residents.
