How can you ignore our vote which passed to keep the HCC?
Trying to force a breakup of the HCC is not going to solve your agenda to get more low income housing into Kirkland. The median price of homes in Kirkland is above 1.5 million and continuing to rise.

We voted to maintain the Houghton Community Council. (Proposition 1) supported by 76 % of the total votes.
We need the HCC to support the land use concerns of our neighborhood.

I have been told by members of the last Houghton City Council in 1968 there was major resistance to merging with Kirkland. They were concerned their desired policies would not be upheld. Neighboring communities like Yarrow Point, Hunts Point, Clyde Hill, etc. rejected being assimilated and are still today independent. As a guarantee to uphold Houghton citizens desires, the HCC was offered as a guarantor. Contrary to what some city officials are claiming, HCC was never set to be term limited, but the Houghton citizens alone would decide its fate every four years, which we again did this fall. It is a violation of this agreement the City now wants to shut us down. Houghton should reconsider becoming an independent municipality if that happens, just like our neighboring communities.
HCC has sometimes vetoed City of Kirkland's regulations, so I understand they want to get rid of it, but those vetoes have only been used when so has been warranted.

The constituency of Houghton deserves a public hearing and full due process on this issue. The Mayor, Vice-Mayor and City Attorney know this is required.

A deal is a deal. The Houghton Community Council (HCC) adds another layer of checks and balances to what the Kirkland City Council tries to push through in their sneaky way! The HCC will listen to citizens concerns and do their best to implement concerns from citizens. The KCC will listen to the citizens of Kirkland, but they do what they want to do.
