The existing Kin Kin/Pomona road is totally inadequate to cater for large quarry trucks and without substantial upgrade a serious accidents is almost guaranteed. For the safety of the local community please can you restrict the number of heavy trucks using the road until it is upgraded. The Neilsen Group, the company who have leased the quarry, are planning over 40 loads per day of truck and trailer weighing up to 42 tonnes out of the quarry. This requires 80 trips over the Kin Kin Pomona Road, one every 6 minutes. The Kin Kin Pomona Road has 27 sharp bends, huge drops off to the side with no safety fences and two one-way narrow bridges. The Department of Main Roads does not consider the road wide enough to have a single middle line and in most places two trucks could not pass. I request the Government of Queensland and the Department of Main Roads carry out an urgent assessment study of this road as the Noosa Hinterland community believe the quarry proposal will seriously endanger the lives of road users.
