A Waterfront Plan for Kingston

Kingston is located on one of the most extraordinary lakes in the world. Sadly, much of
our shoreline has fallen into disrepair, is not very well connected, and is
inaccessible to the public. Considerable investments have been made in some waterfront areas, but it is done in a piecemeal, ad hoc fashion because we lack a
comprehensive waterfront plan. Part of the problem is the patchwork of
ownership along the shoreline (municipal, provincial, federal and private).
However, other municipalities in North America have managed similar
complexities and created dynamic waterfronts. It requires political will and
energy. Additional resources will also be needed, but we do not need to
overbuild the shoreline.
We call on City Council to take the lead in creating a comprehensive waterfront
strategy for Kingston, in close consultation with different levels of
government, user groups and community organizations.
Please tell us what you think can be done to improve our shoreline.
