Kings Mill Bulk Internet Contract With Metronet
Metronet will complete the build out for fiber internet service in our neighborhood this fall. Fiber internet is more reliable and faster than the existing infrastructure offered to us by Spectrum.
While all neighbors currently have the opportunity to sign up individually at the advertised rates, we have the opportunity to sign a bulk contract with Metronet to get much lower rates for everyone.
Current advertised rates as of September 28, 2020:
- 500MB: $70/month ($60/month promotion for first 12 months)
- 1GB: $90/month ($60/month promotion for first 6 months and $70/month for next 12 months)
A bulk contract with Metronet would guarantee pricing for the length of the contract (proposed as 5 years) for every home in the neighborhood at $35/month for 500MB service. Under such a contract, the HOA would pay Metronet monthly for every home in the neighborhood at that rate. (141 homes x $35 = $4935) Each homeowner would pay the HOA the equivalent of $35/month at a to-be-determined frequency via special assessment over the length of the contract.
Each homeowner would also have the ability to contract with Metronet individually (and be billed individually by Metronet) for additional services, such as:
- 1GB internet service (additional cost of $10/month)
- Television service (price depends on package)
- Phone/voice service ($10/month)
The bulk contract with Metronet would be universal, meaning that whether or not a homeowner chooses to use Metronet internet service, they would still be required to pay the special assessment to the HOA.
By signing this petition as a member of the Kings Mill homeowners association, I support a motion to the board to move forward with securing a bulk contract for internet service from Metronet.
