As you may already know the very busy A119 road runs through the high road of Waterford. Despite having a speed limit of 30mph in the village the majority of motorists grossly exceed this speed. The road is on a straight and as a result drivers tend to drive at excessive & dangerous speeds. The speed of traffic in Waterford has been of concern for many years. Worringly the playing field is also on the High Road increasing the risk to children. The road is also very wide in certain places, meaning that parked cars on the roadside do not result in a vehicle slowing down as they can pass easily. Many surrounding roads have traffic calming restrictions so this road is also used as an easy run for lorries and commercial vehicles. This contributes to the danger and increases noise at all hours Residents have profound concerns regarding the excessive speed of some vehicles using the road. The absence of effective traffic calming measures also severely prejudices the quality of the environment, and exposes residents and users to higher risks than are reasonable. Vehicles not observing the speed limit obviously are a potential danger to all residents and pedestrians in the road.
