Kiera Osborn for 1L Class Secretary
Hello Everybody! My name is Kiera Osborn. Just a little background about me, I am from Ypsilanti Michigan, graduating from Lincoln High School. I have one brother who is a wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings, my mom is an RDH, and I love authentic Mexican food!
Originally, I went to Eastern Michigan University on a full ride academic scholarship for education. I graduated with a degree in Education with the concentration of Literacy & Art for Elementary Education, Child-Center Teaching & Learning, and a minor in Politics & Racism.
During my time at Eastern, I served in a host of positions including the marching band my freshman year. Upon my sophomore year, I became a residential advisor and held this position for three consecutive years. Here I was quickly able to further skills gained from high school extracurriculars aligning with a secretarial position, such as organization, supervision, communication, managing, and creating. Moreover, as I exercised the skills previously learned, I was able to add intricate details to those skills as a young adult in a new setting. This helped me with struggling in the areas I needed help with, while furthering the skills I’ve possessed. Additionally, I was the secretary, vice president, and president of the Black Student Union leading up to my senior year, BSU Student Government representative, student teacher, and a mentor for Pathways For Success. When preforming these duties, I was able to gain experience not only from the skills mentioned, but the skills learned on the job. I learned how to create annual events, negotiate/mediate, be a liaison between student staff faculty and other clubs, as well as hearing from the members of the organization, to help better the vision. I was also able to practice performing in diverse environments outside of my norm. This was the biggest take away from my college experience, which I believe will translate being your secretary. Here, I was able to grasp new perspective, learn how to communicate with others of a different background, and even share my own experience.
As your secretary, I will make sure to keep our class information organized, make sure information is sent out to you in a timely manner, as well as responding to any questions you have for the class. I will promise to be a liaison between you and any of the officers elected and the school officials, and each other. Lastly, I will make sure our class is offered ample opportunity for success, whether that be scheduling meetings, creating new events, managing data, scheduling, etc.
Thank you so much for your consideration. I hope I am able to get your signature and good luck to everyone!
Weeks almost over, we got this!
Cheers,
K. Osborn
