The US is on the brink of defaulting on our debt for the first time in our great nation's history. The ramifications of this on our and the global economy will be catastrophic. Most independent agencies such as the US Treasury predict this will lead to a global economic depression. If this were to occur, it will not be due to the fact that the US cannot service the our debt. Due to the historically low interest rates, the servicing of the payment of interest on our debt as a percentage of GDP has not been lower since the 1980's. So as opposed to an involuntary default (ie. we do not have the money to service the interest payments), and be forced into an involuntary bankruptcy like Greece and Argentina in the past, the US instead will choose to voluntarily not repay the agreed interest on bonds we issued with the backing of the US Treasury. If this happens it will be at the hand of the Tea Party, whom represent a very narrow and extremist point of view in the Republican party. I encourage every US citizen regardless of political affiliation to vow to vote against any Tea Party member at the Federal, State and Local level. Our country cannot let a small number of fanatical extremist be responsible for destroying the world's and most importantly America's economic health.
