We were students. We were teachers. We were administrators. We are friends, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers.

We have all been affected by the culture of silence surrounding past sexual misconduct at The Key School.

We call on the administration and Board of Trustees of the Key School to address any physical, emotional, and moral injury sustained by its students. We call for an investigation to insure that appropriate safeguards are in place to make sure that the mistakes of the past are never repeated. We call on the school to create an environment where truth and reconciliation are possible, and to support all survivors on their path to healing.

We stand together.

The stories coming into my inbox are heavy but they affirm exactly why this reckoning is necessary. I am spending my hours connecting with survivors and organizing our next steps to ensure the administration cannot continue looking away.

Seeing one hundred people come forward in support of this cause reminds me that our experiences at Key School cannot be hidden any longer. This number is a powerful testament to the community ready to confront the silence. We are just beginning this journey toward healing and true accountability.

Seeing these names grow reminds me how many of us have carried this silence for too long. If you know someone else who was hurt at Key, please send this link to them right now so we reach our first major milestone together.

It happened to us young boys in the lower school too. Straight up sexual abuse. The word “inappropriate” makes people feel better, but it was abuse.

Having spent thirty four of my most joyous, productive and gratifying years at this institution, I am deeply saddened and grief-stricken, to become suddenly aware of the extent to which so much pain and anguish has occurred, at all, never mind while I was here at Key. My support and prayers go out to all affected.

I was aware of what was going on from 1966 to 1978 while I attended. NOTHING was done about it. It was just ignored...swept under the rug. It is TIME that the affected students get satisfaction.

Much of who I am comes from my time at Key, and I remember it fondly. I was just there and it still seems special. And there were always rumors, among the students. I hope the school leadership reckons now with the past forthrightly.

The actions and behavior of key School faculty members actions toward my teenage daughter were disgraceful and criminal. The hurt to our family was profound and never goes away.

As a former Key school teacher, formerly appointed member by four MD governors to the Governor's Council on Child Abuse and Neglect, and former Executive Director of the Maryland Chapter to Prevent Child abuse America, I advocate for the protection of children everywhere including in the school environment.

I have met and heard Carolyn Surrick. I believe her, and in her, and that brought me to this page. Beyond this petition, I support her current efforts re passage of the Child Victoms Act to be passed by both the House and the Senate of Maryland. All signers of this petition should see her remarkable video 6:04 'A Survivors Story' on YouTube.
