Current Kent Union regulations allow candidates in the Leadership Elections to use laptops and smart phones to collect votes. This is an unacceptable liability to the free and fair execution of an secret ballot, encourages voter suppression and preferential voter selection. Please use your Kent ID if you have one. this petition could be used to call an emergency meeting of the Union Council (not our intention, just a reasonable standard).

Updates

March 7, 2013

The momentum generated by this petition has now reached a level that necessitates a formal response from the Union Council. I am currently drafting a letter to the leadership to request a review of existing voting regulations before the next election cycle begins.

total nonsense that this is allowed. let people vote in private like a real election

This is exactly why so many people dont bother voting in these things. It feels rigged.

Its pretty shady when someone is standing right there watching you click the button. Defeats the whole point of a secret ballot.

Fix this! It makes me really uncomfortable when candidates hover over me while I'm trying to vote.

About time this changed. Ive seen people basically intimidating others to vote for them right in the library. Not okay.
