On January 8th, 2010 I read an article from AP about army bases facing funding cuts to services on the base. I could not believe what I was reading. According to the AP article Tom Gavin White House budget office spokesman said " funding intended for our troops at war should go to our troops at war. Those funds should not be diverted for cutting grass or other general operations at military bases". These families are making sacrifices most of us will never have to make and their services are going to be cut.

According to the AP article, Fort Cambell could see a 40 percent drop in its budget from $177.5 million last year to $106.5 million. Cuts could be 39 percent at Fort Stewart, 25 percent at Fort Bragg, 22 percent at Fort Drum, and 21 percent at Bamberg,Germany. We have spent about $253 billion of the $792billion stimulus. We have to cut base spending? I know there is more waste than can be counted. Why not take some stimulus and fund these bases. I don't think the military or their families should want for anything. They are making the greatest sacrifice so we do not have to. We therefore request that no funding be cut from any military base for operations. Money from the stimulus that has not been spent could be use to fund these bases a much better use of the money.

My goal is at least 250,00 signatures. Then the petition will be mailed or delivered to Washington. Maybe with that large of a number they may do something about this.
