Dear School Board of the Council Bluffs Community School District,

I believe that non-traditional school schedules should be offered on a
parent choice basis, not dictated by a school district for every child.

I believe that my family has valid reasons for wanting a traditional school schedule
and that raising achievement scores should not supersede my family's scheduling
needs or the educational perspective of my family.

I want to have the option to select a traditional calendar for my child in the
Council Bluffs Community School District.

I believe that broad and diverse life experiences are more important than
achievement scores.

I believe that traditional summer provides holistic opportunities for
learning and growth that school does not.

I believe that the broad and diverse life experiences in a traditional summer
cannot be measured by the ITBS, ACT or any other achievement measurement
tool used by a school district.


As you consider the issues at hand I urge you to keep a traditional schedule
in the Council Bluffs Community School District.

If the Council Bluffs Community School District wishes to experiment with raising achievement scores through a non-traditional school schedule, do so at an
elementary school where parents can choose this schedule, rather than dictating
such a schedule for every child in our community.
