To the Person County Board of Commissioners:
We, the residents and neighbors of Person County, are writing to ask you to VOTE NO on the request to change our Solar Energy Ordinance. We want you to KEEP THE ORDINANCE AS IS.
Right now, our county has a smart rule that limits large solar facilities to a maximum of 100 acres. A solar company, Cypress Creek Inc., is asking to change the rules so they can build facilities with "no cap on project size". This would "totally gut" the protections we already have in place.
We are signing this petition because:
- We want to keep our county beautiful: We live here because of the "dignity and aesthetics" of our rural environment. Replacing thousands of acres of open land with industrial solar panels would ruin the scenic character of our home.
- Our farms matter: The current ordinance was written specifically to "avoid adverse impacts" on our agricultural lands. Allowing unlimited acreage for solar panels directly contradicts the goal of protecting our farming community.
- Protecting land values: Placing unlimited acreage solar parks near a residential area could dramatically affect land values.
- 100 acres is enough: We’ve already seen what happens without limits. Before we had this ordinance, projects as large as 800 and 900 acres were proposed for Hurdle Mills and Berea. If you remove the size cap, these massive "mega-projects" could come back.
Please protect our rural character and our farmland. Vote NO on expanding solar size limits!
