The Dutch Council for Culture is advising Dutch State Secretary for Culture Halbe Zijlstra to cut the annual national subsidies to Nederlands Dans Theater by nearly half. The Council is also proposing downgrading Nederlands Dans Theater to a ‘regional company’. This would be a fatal blow for Nederlands Dans Theater.
For more than fifty years, Nederlands Dans Theater has been the standard bearer for modern dance in the Netherlands and abroad. It serves as the home base for the world’s best dancers and dance makers. It is a company that hasbeen home to worldrenowned choreographers such as Jiří Kylián, Hans van Manen, Paul Lightfoot and Sol León. Join us in opposing the Dutch Council for Culture’s proposal! The Dutch Council for Culture is proposing nearly halving the grant to Nederlands Dans Theater and downgrading the dance company to a 'regional dance amenity'.
I support Nederlands Dans Theater in requesting the Dutch State Secretary for Culture Halbe Zijlstra to:
Not agree to the proposed grant cut
Recognise the company's (inter)national status
Such a renowned world-class company. Quoting Renée Phillips: “The medical profession has come a long way in recognizing the healing benefits of art. My hope is that someday the arts will be considered as significant and essential in everyone’s lives as breathing fresh air, eating clean foods, and engaging in physical exercise.”
