Keeping LSSU Classes at 8am

Don't worry about my reason. Just know I signed it

I like my 8am classes because it allows my coach to have earlier practice instead of having classes til 7 and practice following and I end up being up till 1am

Just because students won't have classes at 8am doesn't mean they'll go to these meetings, over 90% of them will most likely sleep in. Somedays during the week I work at 5, so pushing 8am's to 9 will push labs that end at 4:50 to 5:50. This not only conflicts with work schedules but dinner schedules that you are already trying to avoid by putting meetings at 8am instead of 5pm. The fall semester is my last and this could conflict with my schedule and possibly graduating if classes are scheduled at the same time. That would mean I would have to wait an entire year to take one class to graduate since it is only offered in the fall.

What a joke, hiding this change in the allure that they are thinking of us, the students, yet they are as transparent on their plans as a lead wall.

This won't help anything, our schedule is fine the way it is. Students aren't going to participate in anything whether it's 8am or 5.

I always enjoyed having classes earlier in the day so I could do more recreational activities, work, homework, etc. in the afternoon. I've also found that I'm the kind of person that excels more during the earlier hours of the day when it comes to exams. This also brings the point that in the "real world," the work day begins around 8-9 am. If high school, middle school, and elementary school can start that early, why can't college? Why not have a set meeting time at 7 or 8 pm?

Starting the day at 9 am instead of 8 am will only push the rest of the classes back later. I have class that don't get out until 8, I don't want those to be pushed back an hour further because it starts infringing on my homework time in the evening. No one is going to get up earlier and get anything done with the 9am start time, don't kid yourself. This was voted on without comment from the student body and not a single student I've talked to is happy about it.

Just as an FYI this decision was made to give a common hour to accommodate university meetings and allow faculty and students to participate. The administration did a study that showed the 8:00 am hour was the least affected hour. We also debated 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm. I only "sign" this so that I can help inform you as to the reason this decision was made.

Because not everyone's schedule works the same, 8ams are good for athletes and many other students. Also nobody wants to have night classes going past 8

I think not having 8 am classes is a horrible decision. Like others who commented before me, it's already difficult to schedule classes, and it is already difficult enough to work on campus around students' schedules to be able to work enough to help pay for college. Also, some students might actually like the 8 am classes as it gets them out of class early enough in the day to do other activities they actually like and/or keep their job that may be off campus. I can't imagine how the science, engineering, and nursing students will be able to graduate on time when half the classes they probably can fit in to their busy schedules are cancelled.

8am is the real world. Pushing classes later creates so much more conflict with athletics, outside jobs, etc. Keep it the way it is.

Start the day at at normal business hours. It's the time jobs would start and allows students to get their day started and ended early to get to work or other classes

Classes should still start at 8am. As much as I try to avoid these classes, I know we need them. Changing the start time will push back the seminar classes until 5pm, a time normally reserved for labs. Classes will go even later into the evening because labs can not start on time. Later classes harm students abilities to hold a job and subsequently pay for college. Some labs simply work better in the morning. There are some outdoor labs like this. We should keep the 8am classes.

For people who work, want to graduate on time this is a terrible choice on lssu behalf. I'm very disappointed with this action and believe it will force people to stay in this institution longer than they should due to scheduling issues.

People who do not want an 8am class don't have to take it. Even with canceling them they still will not get up and go see professors as is suggested with one reason for canceling them

It's already difficult to schedule extracurricular activities in evenings, not to mention finding work shifts. I already have some classes that go late into the evening, I don't want those to be going even later.

I am really disappointed in LSSU's decision to just push this with out comment from the student body. For science majors this could adjust labs and also jr/Sr. seminars that are usually held at noon on Fridays back to 5pm. With labs and other courses being adjusted it seems harder to maintain afternoon jobs. My biggest issue with this is their choice of words to say it is for a common meeting time, why move an academic schedule for 2k students, instead of for 400 instructors. I see we have forgotten who works for who. LSSU also needs to stop pretending like everyone in the Sault supports this, it is false and makes the media buy into this awful decision.

I need 8am classes in order to hold a job and to continue going to school. Some classes need an early start due to the nature of their subject, others work well in the morning so that students can have more options of what they can take and when they can take them.

For science majors having 8am classes is important. We have very packed schedules due to labs and 8ams allows us to end our days at 5.

It's impossible to hold a steady jobs if your classes are pushed later in the day.
