Everyone makes mistakes and no one is perfect. Owning up to those mistakes and wanting to better oneself shouldn't be hindered by said past. If anything those people who want to do better should be congratulated for getting back up again for getting knocked down. And for the ones who want to hold someone back because of something they did when they were younger: shame on you. I'm shire you were young once as well.

Austin is a hard-working, friendly, and encouraging peer. As an incoming Freshman, meeting Austin assured me that I had made the correct choice of college, and that I was among good people.
Austin has shown significant improvement since being put on suspension, displaying an authentic work ethic, and most importantly, a desire to stay at this school.
Berea is a home for those of us who seek to better ourselves through learning and hard work. I believe through this hardship, Austin is accomplishing both of these things. Berea would only benefit by showing its students understanding, and recognition of the effort they make toward accomplishing their goals.

Austin is a very good student and he is a very good presence in Berea. He was one of the first people I met when I came in and he has done nothing except be my friend and help me in times of need.

I know Austin from the Berea Buddies volunteer program where he mentors a child from the community. He has been an amazing role model for this child and has really helped him grow as a person. He is one of our best volunteers and cares about the program. He has an enthusiasm for life that is inspiring and contagious, and is a great addition to the Berea community.

Berea, please reconsider your decision and allow Austin to remain a student for fall 2016 semester. He is taking his education seriously and is raising his GPA. He is dedicated and wants to become an educator himself. I personally know of another Berea student that failed a whole semester of classes and was allowed back in. What does Austin have to do to get another chance?

He's a good student. An incredible amount of progress from his original point. I don't know what mistakes the original petition is talking about as a "child" exactly, other than the GPA situation. But what I do know: Austin is a good friend, who will fight for those he cares about. Someone with an ever-bounding amount of love and enthusiasm. Maybe a little bit too much enthusiasm- but he wants to teach, so more power to him. ✊

To kick someone out for an arbitrary reason such as childhood mistakes is extremely petty. He applied to this school for the same reason as everyone else did: a chance he wouldn't get elsewhere. Childhood mistakes give you no right to take that away from him or anyone else. How dare you call yourselves caring about your students while doing this??
