As a collective member of the Eckerd community and as an individual, it is our right to both raise awareness against any event, topic, or action that could/would negatively impact our school, our standards, and/or our quality of education. We, as a community, find that the denial of tenure for Prof. Kent Curtis falls directly into this category. As a scholar, professional, colleague, mentor, environmentalist, and friend, Kent Curtis upholds those positive standards that Eckerd College wishes to reflect. The below signatures are from alumni, parents, current students, local community members, and others whose lives have all been touched by Prof. Kent Curtis. Those signed below wish to make clear our utter disappointment and disagreement with this decsion. We, as a collective whole, feel that it is wrong and against our school code that personal accusations were weighed more heavily than Prof. Kent Curtis' clear ability to teach and mentor students, uphold Eckerd's standards, reflect excelling expertise in his field, challenge the minds of those around him, and reach out to the surrounding community - as reflected in his exceptional evaluations. We are petitioning for the reversal of the denial of Prof. Kent Curtis’ tenure, and in turn, we are appealing for the administration to grant him this much earned and deserved honor.
