Hockey coaches, officials and parent administrators are required to take "SafeSport" courses to keep youth players safe. But there currently are no mandatory classes for players to address how they can respectfully play the game and minimize injuries to themselves and their fellow players. A mandatory class for youth players could highlight not only how to incorporate body contact into their play, but also better understand what defines misconduct – both on and off the ice. The goal of this type of training is to remove the "hit to kill" mentality that has been creeping into the sport.
my son plays bantam and the hitting is getting really out of control. kids think its the nhl and someone is going to get seriously hurt soon. totally agree with this.
