Wadley has always been the main campus of Southern Union since the beginning. Opelika Technical grew because of it affiliated with Southern Union. The partnership was good for both schools. I do not believe moving the main campus from Wadley is in the best interest of both schools this time. The Wadley campus will be the loser in many ways in future years.

On behalf of Randolph County Economic Development Authority, I want to express our stanch support of keeping the main campus of Southern Union State Community College (SU) in Wadley, Alabama.
Alabama leaders have recognized the challenges that rural Alabama communities face when working to attract and retain businesses, and they have voiced support for rural Alabama initiatives. Since Randolph County is a rural area, we need to promote and create location advantages that will appeal to companies and site selection consultants when competing for industrial projects. Having the main campus of SU is definitely something we can tout as being an asset to our county and if this is taken away, we lose a powerful tool in our recruitment efforts.
RCEDA can’t support the proposed change of moving the main campus to Opelika because it would be detrimental to Randolph County. In addition, we don’t see that such a change would be beneficial to the students since they are being successfully prepared for transfer to four-year universities and to enter the workforce.
SU is vital to Randolph County and RCEDA asks that you carefully consider our request to keep the main campus of Southern Union State Community College in Wadley.
Sincerely,
Marilyn Lott
