We the students, faculty/staff, alumni and family of the University of Tampa hereby petition for the nutritional labeling of food in all dining halls on campus. These include:
- Ultimate Dining
- Morsani Hall
This will ensure that, at a university that preaches a liberal education, students will be able to make more educated and informed choices about how they fuel themselves for success. Primary concern include:
- Students with allergies (nut allergies, lactose intolerance, etc.)
- Students with health conditions (such as diabetes)
- Student athletes
- Health-conscious individuals striving to gain, lose, or maintain weight
- Students with dietary restrictions (religious or otherwise)
It is the duty of the university to cater to the needs of its paying students. Please stand up for your fight to informed decision-making by signing.
I’ve been a vegetarian for five years, so I would appreciate if the restaurants on campus had food labels. Whenever I ask a cafe worker what’s inside the food they’re serving they never know. Or for instance today, 3-12-18, I picked Lima beans because the menu only said Lima beans and when I started to eat the beans I realized they had some kind of meat inside of them. Thankful I hadn’t eaten the beans enough to reach the meat, but if I had I could’ve gotten very sick. I love UT, but I would appreciate if they cared a little more about my nutrition and lifestyle as a vegetarian.
