Heh, the housing department has always been the exact opposite of everything good about Auburn. Sounds like the new director is actually BETTER than the last one who made the claim that students should only use the Internet for checking email because video games are bad for your brain. I think she was just butt-hurt that a bunch of kids more intelligent than her kept petitioning for usable Internet after they removed wired Internet from the dorms.

Living in South Donahue costs $10,900 a year, whereas the Quad costs $6,800 a year. This is way too much of a difference people pay. I can't believe Auburn would do this to us! Where is SGA!

It is a shame that the university has decided that the close-knit, on-campus communities of honors students are not worth keeping together but that the Greek and athletics communities are. This decision says something about the university's priorities.

I'm particularly angry about NMS. My friends with National Merit Scholarships were promised free housing for four years, and came to AU with that expectation. Now, they're having to take out loans to cover tens of thousands of unexpected dollars. Just grandfather in the current students, and do away with it after this year, if it's so economically unfeasible for AU.

I have emailed various news networks, including the Plainsman, in hopes that coverage will help pressure housing to change its way. This is beyond ridiculous. Turning all dorms on campus to freshmen only will obliterate any sense of community that has formed by allowing upperclassmen to live on campus. Why should a freshman who has never so much as read a syllabus take precedence over the many successful upperclassmen wanting to stay in on-campus communities? How could the "Auburn family" give its students such short notice? Lease prices have already gone up for the 2016-2017 year from last semester when many were already signed! You are marginalizing students who cannot afford S. Donahue or a sorority, and wish to live on campus. AU Housing states they are "giving upperclassmen the opportunity" to live in S. Donahue. How ridiculous! There will be a waiting list as SD cannot fit all upperclassmen wanting to stay on campus, and those who will "get the chance" will have to pay thousands of dollars more than they currently do. Upperclassmen are the backbone of the on-campus community, and AU Housing is making this change so that more freshmen have the ability to live on campus. Not all freshmen do want to live on campus! 60% of freshmen already live on campus, how many more do they want? This will isolate upperclassmen and lead to poor publicity for AU. This is the direct order of the new Director of Housing, Kevin Hoult ([email protected]). I suggest everyone email him their thoughts.

I am a senior living in the Quad on a four-year National Merit housing scholarship. Upperclassmen should be allowed to live on campus an be part of the dorm community, especially if they were already promised four years of housing.

Housing is going to go up $2000 a semester from the Upper Quad!!! Not only that, but with limited housing, this could be disastrous for seniors with just two semesters left. One of my friends had to transfer from Auburn to UAH because he couldn't get housing.

As an auburn alum and former National Merit Scholar I can say that my four years in Little Hall were the best of my life so far. The experience of living with fellow nms students was instrumental in my success at Auburn.
