Keep U Kyaw Moe Tun as the People's Voice of Myanmar at the UN

Open Letter from the People of Myanmar: In Support of Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun’s Continuation as Myanmar’s UN Representative
To:
- His Excellency António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations
- His Excellency Dennis Francis, President of the United Nations General Assembly
- The Chair and Members of the Credentials Committee of the United Nations General Assembly
Distinguished Secretary-General, Mr. President, and Esteemed Members of the Credentials Committee:
We, the people of Myanmar, respectfully urge you to uphold our nation’s democratic will by ensuring that Ambassador U Kyaw Moe Tun remains Myanmar’s legitimate Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun stands as the true, internationally recognized voice of Myanmar’s citizens, including all ethnic groups, and our democratically elected leaders. At this time of grave crisis—when fundamental rights and freedoms are being violently suppressed—his principled representation at the United Nations is our sole conduit to the world. Through his leadership, the global community hears the ongoing calls for justice, human rights, and restoration of democracy in our homeland.
Allowing Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun to continue in this role affirms the United Nations’ core values: that the legitimate wishes of peoples, not the dictates of military force, should determine national representation. His presence sends an unequivocal message that the United Nations supports democracy, rejects illegitimate seizure of power, and stands with the people of Myanmar in our struggle for freedom.
We appeal to your commitment to the UN Charter and ask that you defend this vital link to international justice. Please do not let political expedience or procedural ambiguity silence our only authentic representative on the global stage.
In upholding Ambassador Kyaw Moe Tun’s mandate, you give hope to all who strive for democracy and inspire similar commitments to legitimate governments around the world.
With most profound respect and urgency,
The People of Myanmar
In addition to this iPetitions drive, we are also currently gathering endorsements through a Google Form, in partnership with grassroots diaspora groups coordinating this support. To date, this petition has received endorsements from over 17,000 individuals and civil society organizations. To protect all signatories, the full endorsement list will be shared only with verified entities upon request. This safeguard addresses the Myanmar Military Junta's harsh laws imposing severe penalties—including long imprisonment and asset confiscation—on anyone seen disrupting their planned election.
Another effort through the Action Network in which the petition dates to 2023, referencing "31 months since the coup," has gathered over 350,000 endorsements over the years and remains a valuable expression of support.
