Given that as it stands now, if the train whistle is banned in Fernie.B.C. the costs to the City of Fernie and ultimately the taxpayers will be huge, current estimates well over $500,000.00.
We the undersigned petition city council not to go ahead with such a ban unless it can be done at no cost the the City of Fernie taxpayers.
The momentum behind this petition highlights a significant public desire for fiscal responsibility regarding the train whistle issue. It is clear that residents prefer to avoid substantial tax increases for this project.

Taxpayers shouldnt have to foot the bill for this. If they want the whistle gone let the people who live right by the tracks pay for the safety upgrades.

Half a million bucks just to silence a train? Are they kidding me. Keep the whistle and spend that money on fixing the potholes in this town instead.
