The sandbox is great for tactile learning! Even if reduced to 3 times per week, this would benefit many children.

Please, please, please, keep the sandbox or bring whatever substitution of a sandbox in!!! Kids love it!

My two children both benefit greatly from their creative and interactive sandbox play. The pros outweigh the cons for our family.

Perhaps they could custom build a sandbox with a hard cover lid the clamps or locks down when not in use so animals can’t get in.....

When I told my kids the school was going to remove the sandbox, they became upset. They love playing in the sandbox. I think removing it would be a mistake.

My kids love it and I hope the school will seriously reconsider removing it. The benefits for our kids far outweigh complaints about mess.

From an anonymous teacher: “...it’s a sensory thing. Not only that but it encourages social interaction between kiddos of different age groups as well as sharing and working together to build or cook things. So many times I have watched the kiddos make their own bakery and make cookies and birthday cakes or work together to dig holes and sand castles.... keep the sandbox!”

Honestly, kids should get a bath almost every day anyway....I appreciate other people’s rights to an opinion but I think those who join me in this petition deserve the right to express ours as well.

Messy is a poor excuse to get rid of it. Sandboxes are not meant to be neat

Hastily removing a toy enjoyed by the strong majority of children at Kensington because of a few misguided complaints would be a poor decision.

My child loves the sandbox! His eyes light up anytime he sees one anywhere. Not only is it great for creative play but for some students having the tactile sensation of sand can be relaxing.

The sandbox will always be a huge form of entertainment to children. There must be reasonable solutions to keeping it at Kensington. The outdoor features at this location are one of many reasons we picked this school for our children.

Actually health officials say exposure to germs is good for people and kids to build immunity. Oversanitation gives rise to more allergies I think. My children live the sandbox and it was one of the attractions at Kensington.

I was actually hoping they’d add fresh sand next spring! We hope it stays!

My son loves the sandbox at Kensington—it’s his play of choice during outdoor play—often chosen over water day activities in the summer. At his location, the sand box area has a very large shade source which is great on hot and sunny days. Plus it inspires imaginary and creative play. While it can be messy—let’s work with the staff to brainstorm how to eliminate the mess. Sand shoes/outdoor shoes, foot tub to rinse feet, etc.
