Final supporters
We, the signers of this petition, ask for Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood to STRONGLY reconsider his decision to close the jail facility located in Ridgecrest, CA. This decision will add hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars in cost to the Ridgecrest Police Department in transporting detainees more than two hours in each direction to a detainment facility. We believe that this decision will have a major impact on the citizens of the Ridgecrest Community as officers will be not available to patrol and ensure the public saftey.

I honestly cannot believe we hit 500 signatures because I thought this would just be me yelling into the void for a few weeks. It really puts into perspective how many people are worried about our officers spending all their time on the road instead of patrolling these streets (which is honestly terrifying if you think about the response times).

I was just checking the counter and we happen to be creeping up on that first hundred mark so if you know anyone who lives in town maybe send them this link really quick because I honestly think the higher the number goes the more they actually have to pay attention to us (and I keep worrying about the transport costs draining our local budget while the officers are just stuck driving all day).

The citizens of eastern Kern County deserve the same level of services that Bakersfield residents receive. This penny-wise but pound-foolish "solution" comes at the cost of public safety ... that is NOT an option. Find another way.
With the large number of parolees here and increased petty crimes, we do not need to loose our police officers to be taxi drivers. How will closing our jail save money when you have added costs like fuel, overtime, and possible loss of life? Please view other options!
This is a short-sighted "solution" to the on-going financial problems in Kern County: shifting the County's expenses to the City of Ridgecrest doesn't solve either's financial problems and decreases police presence in Ridgecrest. Very poor decision that deserves reversal.
The cost to the City of Ridgecrest to transport suspects and prisoners will be more than the amount the County is saving. This is just the County passing on a burden to the City. Why not take the funded positions at Lerdo and transfer them to Ridgecrest?
Please reconsider. This leaves our wonderful community vulnerable and as always feeling like we are on the fringe wothout a voice over on the eastern edge of Kern. We are county taxpayers and this decision is plain and simply wrong. Thank you

The building and facility is already there. It would be logical to keep it up and running. The added stress and manpower on the RCPD would be unnecessary and would effect their ability to be proactive rather than reactive in their duties as Peace Officers.
